AI is definitely coming for your jobs if you are in this field. In fact, most people will probably get use to not dealing with people and unnecessary relationships that potential cause drama all together. Unlike in authoritarian countries like Giant Lizard Land and Tropical Fungus Foot city-state where you are bound by slavish feudal undemocratic cultural values where you have almost no true individual Western rights, the consumerism driven economy in the West require people to make living wages, spend on borrowed money like how financial institutions operate then pretend that banks are different from the Bernards in how they run their businesses. The other issue the West have is time is very costly when things are idle especially during the metaphorical off seasons when they don’t have a Pyramid to build to keep them business.
The planners cant just let AI replace jobs before a regulatory solution is put into place to prevent GDP stagnation. The most logical thing to do is to retrain which has been down many times with the Baby Boomers with computers in the workplace, calculators, the internet, social media etc. The usually solution is creating jobs around the automation that replaced these people’s old jobs. Of course they will still be overpaid versus Giant Lizard involutionaires but they will at least be able to shop like a Lizardnaire on site of potential questionable ethical Western standards. Being advanced was never about living an adventurous daily existence in Soviet style 40 year old skyscraper apartment complexes built with materials that last 20 years or working in a monoculture empty office buildings with a 10% occupancy and neon lights going off at night, it’s all about being able to live in a 100 year old house that can last for another hundred years with minimal repairs, a huge backyard and actual private property ownership and being the kingqueen of your own castle.

How to survive the AI impact in the “office and administrative support”occupational sector.

If you are in the field within fifteen years of retirement, just learn the very basics about AI like asking it questions. That will probably get you by. You probably don’t make all that much money anyway and contest your POV in court, at the unemployment agency or in the arena of public opinion is probably not even worth it for them. Plus people who been out of school for more than five years probably are in the same boat regarding AI. They are already teaching AI in school that means anyone who enters the workforce now and within the last five years will be somewhat AI trained. They are already mid-career people will have it the hardest. These people are going to have to compete with the youngies who will be more technical savvy in a sector that will be mostly automated. The way to survive is actually surprisingly simple. The young people entering the industry will be technologically trained, eventually more numerous in numbers, and won’t be as folksy.
If something 25 years or older in the collector’s world can be called a classic, what do you call the decreasing supply of pre-AI mid-career employees whose spent a large chunk of their time doing something different than the current entrants? Complimentary pieces? Point guards? Unicorns? If I were in that position, I would probably get a certificate in the field which will be relatively cost-effective compared to going to school for a job that probably doesn’t even pay all that well. I would also probably learn the basics of AI so I can be on the same wave length as everyone else even if my niche is not in that. I will then double down on my folksiness making it cool again. A lot of decent to top sales people don’t do their paperwork nor administrative stuff but they bring in the BLT tray feeding a lot of people. I would then stay away from WAFRLing in this sunset sector for most humans and instead engage in heavy AAFRLing.
