“My name is K. I grew up here and dreamt about this place at least once a month,” said K. Suddenly, the group of men fell back behind a masked man in suit and wearing gloves. The masked man made a hand gesture and the group of men pulled a hidden lever on the wall that opened a concealed door. The masked man and the author invited K to come into the door with them. K complied and was led into a complex tunnel system. After walking for at least ten minutes, the masked man stopped walking. He put his left hand on a landscape oil painting hanging on the tunnel wall and pushed it inward. A drop ladder appeared from above, K followed the two men upstairs into an old house. The moment K stepped into the house, K instantly knew what it was. It was the house K has been searching for the entirety of K’s life in one form or another. The interior was almost exactly as K remembered down to the set up and arrangement of the room including the painting of the family’s patriarch hanging in the center of the room.
At that moment, K was dumbfounded and became absolutely hysterical. It turned out, the author is a direct descendent of the patriarch and the masked man is the leader of the organization that is trying to locate the treasure. The author explained that there have been many imposters over the years claiming to be the heir of the family in order to gather information relevant to the whereabouts of the treasure map and ultimately finding the treasures. The author explained the masked man is a direct descendent of the first king and he is not an adversary but an ally. The mask man’s organization is composed of descendants of guards who were loyal to the first king. The organizing is searching for an ancient mechanical box that purportedly contained the location of the tomb of the first king along with his secrets. According to known records and legend, the box was purportedly purchased by the patriarch of the family in an overseas auction over a hundred years ago. At the time, no one knows what it was except for the patriarch who learned about the box from his reading of ancient texts.
This secret was only discovered years later when photographs of the box appeared in modern literature. It was believed that the box itself is embedded with contraptions and cannot be opened forcefully without destroying the content in the box. The only way to safety open the box is by using a special key while simultaneously releasing a the scent from a rare plant that went extinct a thousand years ago and locating then solving a puzzle contraption built into the box. According to folklore the key to the box was looted from an ancient temple a few hundred years ago and it may now be possessed by a private collector in a foreign country. A monastery in a sacred mountain not far from here has a small amount of extract from the plant kept as an heirloom for hundreds of years. As for the puzzle contraption, the masked man believe people from his organization could locate and solve the puzzle when the box is located.
After talking for over an hour, the author revealed another astonishing revelation to K. K did not visit the house by accident when K was a child. In fact, K’s family were close friends with the family of the patriarch. K’s recent movements in the city has been tracked by many pairs of eyes including those from the masked man’s organization, other interested parties and the current government. The government is also trying to locate the treasures not only for its vast wealth but more importantly, to gain a sense of legitimacy by locating the tomb of the first king and unlocking his many secrets. Many in the city and in the country see the current government as vile occupiers instead of legitimate guardians of the country. Many people and organizations believe K’s family purchased the key in an auction years ago. The author and the masked man agreed to bring K along in their quest to find the rare plant extract from the nearby sacred mountain.
