The greatest asset you could gain by knowing hip pop and street culture is not in investments. In fact, street life and investments are the antithesis of each other. - 50 Cent: Fiddy was an economic impact on his own. He made so many people and communities rich, he’s a real civil rights leader that enriched the lives of many. Fiddy made the main demographic group love hood music in the mainstream sense.
- Lil Wayne: Young Money discovered some of the biggest hip pop artists in the world and really put the dirty dirty back on the map and internationalized/elevated the genre to new heights not ever seen before.
- DJ Kool Herc: There always have to be a place for the pioneers and mystical figures who helped make the game what it is today. He is the Babe Ruth, Cy Young and Jackie Robinson of hip-hop. A comprehensive history/origination story is important in everything.
- Nelly: Yep, no one will ever put him into the top 10, but I think people have overlooked his credentials because they don’t know what to look at when reviewing his creds. Nelly is that big guy in the 1970s shooting threes when threes didn’t even technically exist yet. He is an interdisciplinary artist when that word was never popular back in the day. He crossed over hip-hop, R&B with mid to uptown suburbia of all demographics which was a large niche market industry people didn’t find much success in at the time. He was a pioneer in the popularity of hip-hop.
- Eazy-E: Being the godfather of G rap means he will always be an important figure in the genre and in music and entertainment history. Think of him as the predecessor that overthrew the imperials but got all his credit taken away in the aftermath of a potential setup to wipe away his legacy as the real godfather of G rap.
- Kayne West: A presidential candidate, one of the world’s most important public figures, one of the greatest artists ever, one of the greatest fashion designers ever, one of the most famous people ever. one of the richest African American in history, one of the most important historians of unfiltered truth crossing all aisles of the political spectrum. He is the Elon Musk of celebrities.
- Biggie: People liked his flows so he must have done something right from a music standpoint. He also passed away around the same time as Tupac which may have allowed people to remember him for a longer period of time.
In a genre all about personality, authenticity, loyalty, individuality and unity, no sellouts should ever be considered as one of the greatest ever.
