K froze. A few seconds later, K felt another light tap on the right shoulder. K suppressed the anticipatory fear then bravely turned around only to find nothing there. The eeriness had K shook. Just when K was about to walk back to civilization, K saw something moving in one of the old houses through the corner of the left eye. K moved closer to look through the crack between the two sides of the closed gate only to find a squirrel running around inside. Just when K was about to leave and instinctively pushed against one of the gate doors, the gate door opened. As K hesitated in deciding whether to step inside of the gated area or not as every gate at other houses that K checked earlier were all locked, K saw a dated sign at least decades old at the corner of the building that said “cafe on the basement floor.”
The building, like all the other surrounding buildings in the complex, appears to have been built a century or two ago. K was scared yet at the same time seeing the sign piqued K’s interest. The inside of the building was reasonably spacious, slightly dim and dusty but was not pitch black because sunlight shone through its many windows. K turned on the cellphone flashlight temporarily to get better visibility of the building knowing at the current phone battery power levels the phone will only be on for a few more minutes and that this will be the last place that will be visited during this trip. The inside of the first floor basically had nothing else but empty bookshelves around its walls and sconces. Although everything were cleared out, the style of the inner decorations along and the sconces were clearly from a time long ago. As K walked downstairs to the basement, only a faint light can be seen derived from emitting sunlight via a small basement window. There were literally nothing inside besides some bookshelves and sconces. There were no sign of a cafe anywhere in sight. Just as K was about to leave, K spotted a small inscription casted on one of the sconces.
K took a picture of that and went back to the first floor. The building also had a second floor and another house within the same yard right behind it. K tried to go upstairs only to find the stairs were completely removed hence no easy way to walk up. The house behind it appears to be unlocked. K wanted to explore further, however, when K noticed the cellphone battery level was at 5% and the sun is about to set, K quickly left the complex and walked back to civilization. When K arrived back to the hotel, K ate some food, took a shower, hit the bed and fell asleep. K had a very long yet profound dream that same night. When K woke up in the morning, K still vividly remember the dream. It was then that K finally remembered details about the house that K kept dreaming about for years.
When K was just a child, K wandered into an empty house in that neighborhood. The door was locked but K managed to squeeze under the space between the bottom of the gate door and the dirt floor. Once the young K traversed through the yard and got inside of the building, young K was shocked by the room’s grandeur. There were bookshelves stacked full of old books, a table that had letters and old money and coins on it, and many fascinating news things that bewildered K at the time. K did not take anything from the house but sort of remember a portrait of a man that K does not recognize hanging on the wall. Because this had happened to K at a very young age, K only vaguely remember this event may have happened but could not definitively recall whether this happened in a dream or in real life. Just when K was about to leave for the hospital to visit the ill family remember, someone knocked the hotel room door…..
