While they had their eyes closed, none of them went into deep sleep. They could vaguely hear prowling steps. They furtively scanned the room for surveillance devices and turned off the light and saw a faint beam of light, they knew they were being watched. In fact, before they went on this trip, they spent a few hours discussing contingency plans including communicating in a special coded language when in distress. The night went by without incidents. The next morning, the three of them woke up early to prepare breakfast and plan for the exploration of the monastery. The author utilized the patriarch’s diary to learn more about the monastery and its attributes. According to the diary, the monastery was built as a multi-layered maze that required locating and activating certain mechanical switches to gain opening access to each section.
Activating a switch requires correctly deciphering riddles the first time otherwise a defense mechanism gets triggered putting them in great peril and delay their progress as they have to start from the very first switch again. It took them the entire day to open the final door that leads them to a nondescript, narrow and dark corridor. With a push of the wall, they entered an underground city. The underground city has a fresh water stream flowing from the underground lake. Although the underground city is well hidden due to its depth and thick vegetation covering its many entrances near a seaside steep cliff, it receives ample sunlight and fresh air from the outside world. After walking for a while, they reached the end of the underground city. Once they realized there was nothing there, they decided to head back. Just when they were about to turn around, they noticed a falcon flying away to the open sky. With the remaining climbing gears gear they had, they took turns to climb to the top of the cliff.
There, above the clouds in paradise sits a small temple housing all kinds of relics and artifacts including manuscripts and steles. After reviewing the findings, it appears the last generation of residence of the complex passed away decades ago. The residences who were all wartime refugees who had received aid from the patriarch, entrusted the Oce clan to safe keep a secret that would unlock a universe of secrets. The masked man, the author and K knew the descendants of the Oce clan most likely have extracts of the rare plant. Once the three of them met up with the rest of the team, the masked man utilized his human intelligence network to track down the Oce clan near an international metropolitan. It appears the clan’s lineage is kept alive by a single member of the family named Ocekay. Based on public information, Ocekay has an elite resume and had spent many years living overseas before returning to the country and vanishing from public view a month ago. Once the masked man saw Ocekay’s picture, he turned his gaze to K. Ocekay and K look very similar as if they are siblings.
