At the current stage, I believe the Yankees are in a much stronger position than the Dodgers to win it all in 2026. The Dodgers may have the absolute best roster construction during the start of the season, as of now and likely into the playoffs, the Dodgers will likely be about 80% of the team they were last year. Injuries is a big part of that but not the main reason. The two main reasons behind this is because Ohtani is the single most important catalyst, force multiplier and everything else for the Dodgers. Los Angeles and by extension the Dodgers have this transplant, happy when all goes right and hell when it doesn’t culture where bandwagoning and ghosting based on this attitude is part of its culture. Due to the various off-the-field issues happening elsewhere along with less favoring from certain organization(s) and winning a championship three consecutive times (yes, I am avoiding the word for obvious reasons), I believe the next best team will likely edge them out from getting their third straight championship in 2026.
The Yankees like the Knicks probably shouldn’t win a championship in 2026 as they really don’t have the overall talents to match other elite teams, but because of the circumstances, the social script will likely have the Yankees winning it all in 2026. The Giants and Jets will likely have strong than expected season this year meaning New York is likely going to be a very exciting city this year. Most leagues want their major markets to do well and the MLB and NFL are likely no exception to this trend. I don’t have much faith in the other top teams like the Braves, Rays and Brewers this season. I think Judge, Rice, all the good hitter with many future hall of famers and above-average pitching with a CY Young candidate I think they have a good chance of winning it all this year. The fact that Jasson Dominguez is at AAA tells me a lot about the depth of this team regardless how depleted their farm system is currently.

2026 MLB World Series champions New York Yankees and Ben Rice chase cards.
The Yankees have plenty of money and aurora to attract all kinds of good players. As for Ben Rice, he and Judge will be a Yankee for a long time which typically means at least one championship. I think Ben Rice is likely a legendary who may not be a GOAT due to coming into the league relatively late in his career but will likely be a monument park legend nonetheless. I think this is a good time to buy his rookie cards at a dollar or two a piece. I have no plans to offload Ben Rice rookie and chase cards any time soon. I believe his base rookie cards will likely hit the double digit mark within two to five years. The main reason is neither Judge nor Ohtani will likely be GOAT and because the two essentially stun the career GOAT growth of other elite players, Barry Bonds will likely retain his crown as the true baseball GOAT for the next 30-50 years.
The two will probably play another decade plus and because no GOAT will rise during that period of time and to achieve Bonds’ levels players probably need at least 25 years to have a realistic chance, I believe 50 years is probably the more practical answer. Believe it or not, Bonds rookies can literally be had for a few dollars each…imagine that. In other news, many NBA players had bald heads early in their playing careers up to the mid 2000s yet they might be already in the hall of fame. MLB and baseball got to get with the times and accept certain realities like the NBA and NFL had to long ago. Can you imagine wiping out your league’s best players and best moments from its history?
